SUMMER READS WITH SORA

The Vinita Public Library and the Vinita Public School District is gearing up for summer break. While summer presents an opportunity to relax and enjoy the sunshine, we want our students to continue to find ways to learn while away from the classroom.

We have an exciting reading service available through Sora, the student reading app, which provides free 24/7 access to ebooks and audiobooks. What better way to engage your student’s mind than through reading?

Starting May 4 – August 17, 2022, the Sora Sweet Reads program will offer a collection of Juvenile and Young Adult titles that will be prominently displayed in Sora for quick and easy unlimited access. You can explore the title offerings and learn more about the program here: https://resources.overdrive.com/sora-sweet-reads/.

How does it work?
Sora provides the quickest and easiest way to get started with digital titles from our school and the OK Virtual Library. Students can simply log in using school credentials and instantly access hundreds of ebooks and audiobooks on virtually any device. Get started today at https://soraapp.com or download the free Sora app for Android or iOS.

Enter to Win Prizes during National Library Week

National Library Week is April 3-9.

Visit the Vinita Pubic Library during National Library Week and enter a drawing for one of three gift baskets. The three gift baskets are for the age groups; kids, teens, and adults.  Also, the library is giving away a grand prize to a member who can guess the number of checkouts from April 1, 2021 to April 2, 2022. The number of checkouts will include materials borrowed through our Virtual Library, but does not include renewals.  The closest guess will win a $30 Visa gift card.  In the event of a tie, a random drawing from all tying entries will determine the winner.  Drawings will be held at noon on Friday April 15.  You do not need to be present to win.

The Vinita Public Library is celebrating National Library Week with drawings for gift baskets and a grand prize.  National Library Week is April 3-9 and the theme is “Connect With Your Library” which promotes the idea that libraries are places to get connected using technology, through programs and classes, and to connect to each other.

The drawings are for library account holders only.  However, new members will be immediately eligible. Library staff are regularly registering new members.  A Vinita library account is free for people who live or work in Craig County.  Requirements for getting a library account are you must show an ID and two proofs of mailing address. Connect With Your Library during National Library Week April 3-9

April 3-9, 2022 is National Library Week, a time to highlight the essential role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. The theme for this year’s National Library Week is “Connect with Your Library,” which promotes the idea that libraries are places to get connected to technology by using broadband, computers and other resources. Libraries also offer opportunities to connect with media, programs, ideas and classes, in addition to books. Most importantly, libraries also connect communities to each other.

Libraries of all types continue to go above and beyond to keep their communities connected by expanding resources and embracing inclusion in their programming, resources and collections. Libraries across the country are making a difference in people’s lives by providing electronic learning resources like online resources and wi-fi access for students and workers who may lack internet access at home. The Vinita Library is supporting the community with services such as Children’s programs, meeting space, internet access, virtual library, eResources, printing, copying, faxing and more!

During this week, the Vinita Public Library encourages all community members to visit their library in person or online to explore and access services and programs. The Vinita Library offers a wide array of programs, classes and resources.

This National Library Week, the public can show their appreciation and support for libraries by visiting their library in person or online, following them on social media and using the hashtag #NationalLibraryWeek.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.
