National Authors Chosen as National Library Week Honorary Chair

Award-winning author and illustrator Raina Telgemeier and cartoonist and comic theorist Scott McCloud have been selected Honorary Chairs of the American Library Association’s National Library Week, April 6-12, 2025. The week celebrates the important role libraries and library professionals play in schools and communities.
Telgemeier and McCloud have partnered to create a one-of-a-kind graphic novel, “The Cartoonists Club,” coming from Scholastic’s Graphix imprint on April 1, 2025. The staff at the Vinita Public Library is excited to add the new book from the honorary chairs to their shelves.

Children’s graphic novel author Telgemeier, and author McCloud, created a new graphic novel “The Cartoonists Club” which is now available at the Vinita Public Library. During National Library week you can enter a drawing to win your own copy.
Their book tells the story of Makayla, who is bursting with ideas but doesn’t know how to make them into a story, and Howard, who loves to draw but struggles to come up with ideas. These two new friends, shy Lynda and inventive Art, come together to form The Cartoonists Club. Their beloved school librarian helps them discover the magic of comics, imagination, and their own storytelling powers. The result is a book where friendship is a work of art.
“I’m thrilled to be a co-chair of National Library Week because I know the importance of kids and communities gathering to share their individual types of creativity and inspire each other,” Telgemeier said. “Libraries help so many people to find their unique talents.”
The 67th National Library Week theme is “Drawn to the Library,” to draw communities into the library. The week highlights the importance of libraries of all kinds to the communities they serve.
“We are grateful to Raina and Scott for spreading the word about libraries during National Library Week,” said ALA President Cindy Hohl. “These two talented artists are the perfect spokespeople for libraries, and their message will resonate with people of all ages. Visit the Vinita Library and enter drawings for prizes this week. Call the library for more information at 918-256-2115, and follow the Vintia Public Library on Facebook and Instagram for updates.
Vinita Library celebrates National Library Week

National Library Week (April 6-12, 2025) is a time to celebrate our nation’s libraries, library workers, and promote library use and support in the community. The theme for National Library Week 2025 is “Drawn to the Library”.
Library programming brings communities together not just for entertainment, but education and social connection through book clubs, story times, film Fridays, crafting classes and lectures. Library resources can advance communities by providing internet and technology access, and support for businesses, job seekers, and entrepreneurs.
The library supports our community by providing many online resources and 24/7 wi-fi access for students, workers, and individuals who may lack internet access at home. We also offer services such as monthly children’s and adult programming, Summer Reading Program, meeting spaces, digital library catalogue, printing, copying, faxing and more!
This National Library Week, the Vinita Public Library encourages all community members to visit their library in person or online to explore and access our services and programs. See what YOUR library can do for you!
